This restaurant is famous for its tuna nigiri sushi and 100% buckwheat soba noodles.
Located on the first floor of Takahashi Ryokan—a long-established inn with a history spanning more than 180 years since its founding in the Edo period—the restaurant “Ikoi” is popular for its fragrant 100% buckwheat soba, which is hand-rolled on-site.In particular, the “Zaru Soba and Tuna Nigiri Sushi” set—which features hearty, substantial tuna nigiri—is the restaurant’s signature dish, ordered by about 80 percent of customers.
Utilizing sourcing channels unique to this ryokan—which has long operated as a traditional Japanese-style inn—the restaurant procures its tuna twice a week, primarily using “Kuroshio Honmaguro” from Kochi Prefecture. Rich in fat and full of flavor, its melt-in-your-mouth tenderness is sure to bring a smile to your face.Depending on availability, they also sell sashimi for takeout, and many customers from both within and outside the prefecture come to purchase it.
A popular souvenir item, “Miyamai-nari,” consists of glutinous rice mixed with walnuts, wrapped in inari pouches, and finished with a sweet-and-salty seasoning. We also recommend “Goma-mochi,” a famous snack said to have originated in Kami-Koani Village. Takahashi Ryokan’s Goma-mochi uses a 5:5 ratio of glutinous rice to sesame seeds, giving it a stronger sesame flavor than typical Goma-mochi. Be sure to try the original Goma-mochi for yourself.
