As the name suggests, this is a hands-on, community-oriented farmers’ market run primarily by local “moms” from farming families. Inside, you’ll find a wide array of vegetables, fruits, and processed goods carefully cultivated by local farmers. With seasonal delicacies on display, you’re sure to discover something new every time you visit. At the attached workshop, you can enjoy “kiritanpo-making” and “soba-making” experiences, and depending on the season, you can even participate in apple and pear picking. Odate Yatate Heights is a hot spring inn that serves as the centerpiece of the “Yatate Pass” Roadside Station. The area is surrounded by Akita cedar forests—one of Japan’s Three Great Forests—and offers a variety of scenic views throughout the four seasons. The hot spring, which features an abundant flow of water directly from the source, is affectionately known as “Toge no Kane no Yu” (The Golden Hot Spring of the Pass).
