The oldest building in Kosaka Town, built during the Meiji period
The “Nakakoji no Yakata” in Nakakoji, Kosaka Town, was originally built in Meiji 18 as the residence of the Kudo family, who were landowners in Kosaka Village. The Kudo family descended from a samurai lineage during the Edo period, and by the Taisho and early Showa periods, the head of the family held the position of mayor of Kosaka Town. The building is exceptionally large and contains numerous rooms; with a total floor area of approximately 124 tsubo across the first and second floors, it is an extremely valuable structure that preserves the legacy of samurai residences in Kosaka. The interior features elaborate decorations and exudes an atmosphere distinct from that of typical farmhouse architecture.
