The Tatemata Gorge, home to Kōbei Falls, is a gorge with a 300-meter elevation drop that unfolds like a folding screen along the western foothills of Mount Kuri (elevation 1,016 m), where the Sado Wetlands serve as its headwaters.

About a 10-minute walk from the parking lot, you’ll come upon Ichino-taki, a 38-meter waterfall cascading down a columnar jointed rock face.

After walking around that waterfall for about 30 minutes, you’ll reach Nino-taki, a 20-meter waterfall. From there, continue climbing the beech forest slope for about 20 minutes to reach the observation deck for Kōbei Falls.There, you’ll catch your first glimpse of Kōbei Falls, the gorge’s largest waterfall with a drop of 108 meters.

The path from Nino Falls to Kōbei Falls consists of a series of switchbacks and steep climbs, but the sight of Kōbei Falls waiting at the top will undoubtedly make all your fatigue disappear.
