Let's enjoy both running the marathon and cheering on the runners!
The “Yamada Memorial Road Race,” held to honor the achievements of marathon runner Keizo Yamada—a native of Odate City, Akita Prefecture, best known for winning the 1953 Boston Marathon—is an event that brings together runners of all ages and skill levels.
The course, which allows runners to enjoy the scenic, nature-rich landscape of Odate, is designed to be enjoyable for everyone from beginners to competitive runners.
The event aims to promote health through sports and foster community interaction, and the warm cheers and hospitality of the locals are one of its major attractions.
At the “Nipro Hachiko Dome,” the starting and finishing point for runners, “DaTeFESTA” will be held concurrently, where participants can enjoy Odate City’s renowned cuisine and a variety of performances.
The food and drink booths will feature a wide array of seasonal and local specialties, including exquisite “bamboo shoot soup” made with the bent bamboo native to Mt. Tashiro, rice bowls featuring Hinai Town’s specialty “tonburi” and Hinai-jidori chicken eggs, and smoked daikon radish!
There’s plenty of fun to be had, including the hugely popular “Akita Dog Petting Experience” and performances by local artists!
