Nezo Bangaku is a Nationally Designated Important Intangible Folk Cultural Property passed down in the Nezo settlement of Ani, Kitaakita City—the birthplace of the Matagi hunters. This form of Bangaku traces its roots to Yamabushi Kagura and is characterized by its bold, vigorous, and rough-hewn samurai dances.

According to legend in the Nezo region, the Banraku began when former retainers of the Minamoto clan or fugitives from the Taira clan settled in Nezo Village.

It possesses two major distinctive features: the literary excellence of its lyrics and the fact that its dance form predates the Kōwakamai, which is considered a precursor to Noh theater.

Performances are held annually on August 14.
