The Kosaka Tanabata Festival, said to have begun around the end of the Meiji era, is believed to have been started by miners who came to the town from various regions and longed for their hometowns.

Float parades—featuring warrior dolls said to be inspired by the Aomori Nebuta tradition and creative designs such as characters from TV anime series, all crafted by neighborhood associations and other groups within the town—parade through the streets accompanied by the unique Kosaka Tanabata festival music.

The joint parade on the evening of the second day, when all participating floats gather together, is a spectacular sight.
