This facility houses the headquarters of the Akita Inu Preservation Society, which oversees Akita Inus around the world. The Akita Inu Preservation Society Headquarters engages in a variety of activities to preserve and disseminate information about the Akita Inu, a national protected species, including the creation of pedigrees and the organization of exhibitions. At the reception on the first floor, you will be greeted by dignified Akita Inus who are members of the preservation society. In the museum's gallery, visitors can learn about the Akita Inu in depth through a variety of exhibits on the history, ecology, and biography of the Akita Inu. This gallery is the only dog museum in Japan managed by a dog breed organization.

Kosaka Rail Bike

A rail bike is a vehicle that is pedaled like a bicycle on railroad tracks. The Kosaka Railway was once built between Odate and Kosaka and served local industry by transporting lumber. The Kosaka Rail Bike is an exhilarating ride through the wilderness on an abandoned rail line. You can choose your favorite ride from a variety of vehicles, including a two-seater, four-seater, and trolley cars. Trolley cars pulled by a motorized vehicle and electrically assisted vehicles make it enjoyable even for those with limited physical strength, such as the elderly and small children. Adults and children alike can enjoy themselves to their heart's content.

After filling your stomach with homemade kiritampo nabe, head to Wappa Building, not far from Odate Station. Here, you can see, touch, and experience "magewappa", a traditional craft associated with Odate, at the store and gallery. Not only can visitors see and buy beautiful magewappa crafted by artisans, but they can also try their hand at making their own. While learning from a skilled craftsman, try your hand at making your own magewappa.

The Odate Tourism and Exchange Facility "Akitainu Visitor Center" was built on the model of the Taisho era Shibuya Station, where the loyal dog Hachiko, born in Odate, waited for his owner. Yes, Odate is the hometown of Hachiko, the loyal dog known from the statue of Hachiko in Shibuya. The statue of Hachiko looking straight at JR Odate Station reminds us of those days. Inside the museum, there is an Akita Inu Museum where you can enjoy learning about the characteristics and history of the Akita Inu, an Akita Inu Exhibition Room where you can see cute Akita Inus, and a souvenir corner where you can buy Akita Inu merchandise and Odate's specialty products.
